In the event of an aircraft accident within the Swedish aerial rescue region (at sea, in coastal waters or in one of the largest lakes Vänern, Vättern and Mälaren), the Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible under Swedish law for the aerial rescue service. However, if the missing aircraft is found on the ground or in other lakes, rivers, canals and harbours, the municipal rescue manager takes over responsibility.

The Air Rescue Centre leads the rescue operations

Air rescue operations are led from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Gothenburg by specially appointed air rescue leaders. The JRCC is staffed around the clock in accordance with international requirements, in order to be able to immediately receive alarms, decide on and lead air rescue operations.

The central supervision of the aerial rescue service is exercised by the Swedish Transport Agency with regard to, among other things, compliance with the Act on Protection against Accidents.

The information comes from the Swedish Maritime Administration, the Swedish Transport Agency and JRCC.
