There has been a rare but serious adverse effect of Vaxzevria. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) deems that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks. In the Public Health Agency's judgement, the vaccine cannot be generally recommended for people under the age of 65. Just under 180 000 people under the age of 65 have received a dose of Vaxzevria, most of them healthcare professionals. They will receive a second dose of mRNA vaccine 12-15 weeks after the first.
