Orange warning for wind and wind in combination with snowfall
🔶 SMHI has issued an orange warning for wind in large parts of the Lapland mountains and an orange warning for wind in combination with snowfall for parts of Västerbotten. The warnings come into effect on 4 November.

Orange warning for wind in large parts of the Lapland mountains
During the night towards Saturday, the easterly wind will increase to very strong or storm. On Saturday, snowfall will also move in from the south. The wind and low temperatures will produce a strong cooling effect, mainly in the northern Lapland mountains. Drifting snow results in severely reduced visibility.
The warning is valid from 4 November at 00:00 to 5 November at 05:00.
How can it affect me?
- No hiking is recommended in mountainous areas.
- Rescue operations in mountain environments can be risky and take a long time.
- Very difficult to move around and to erect and anchor tents.
- Severely reduced visibility in snowdrifts.
- High risk of frostbite in cold air.
Orange warning for wind in combination with snowfall for parts of Västerbotten.
From the night to Saturday, persistent and occasionally heavy snowfall and windy weather is expected. A total of 15-30 cm of snow is expected.
The warning is valid from 4 November at 01:00 to 23:00.
How can it affect me?
- Very limited access to roads, especially in open landscape, for example due to lack of snow clearance or traffic accidents.
- Delays in bus, train and air traffic and cancellations.
- Likely loss of electricity in areas with above ground power lines which also affecting mobile telecommunications networks.
