About the floods in Europe

Major flooding continues to affect parts of Europe following the passage of storm Boris over the past week. In several countries, authorities have issued warnings.

Below, you will find information from the Swedish embassies in those countries affected by the weather. There are links to the responsible authorities in those nations. Swedish is the main language, but there will be information at hand in the local languages as well. It is not always in English.

Italy

Storm Boris has caused severe flooding, especially in the regions of Emilia Romagna and Marche in the north-eastern part of the country. The Embassy of Sweden in Italy advises people in the affected areas to stay updated on the situation and follow the advice and instructions of local authorities. 

Austria

The Embassy of Sweden in Austria writes that the country's authorities have issued weather and flood warnings for some parts of the country and partly snow even at low altitude. Many outdoor events have been cancelled.

Czech Republic

The Embassy of Sweden in Prague, Czech Republic, urges Swedes in the country to pay attention to the warnings issued by Czech authorities about the risk of extreme weather conditions.

Poland

South-western Poland, among others, has been affected by widespread flooding with damage to property and infrastructure. Some smaller areas have been temporarily evacuated.

According to information from Polish authorities, Wroclaw is particularly affected by rising water levels. Polish authorities are prepared for further deterioration of the situation and are continuously informing the public. This is according to the Swedish embassy  in Warsaw (links to the country's authorities can be found on the embassy's website).

Hungary

Currently, the Danube and other rivers are experiencing high flows and several communities have been affected by flooding. Water levels are expected to continue rising until Saturday. In the centre of Budapest, several roads are closed and local traffic is disrupted. The Embassy of Sweden in Budapest advises travellers to stay updated on weather conditions.

Slovakia

The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute has issued weather and flood warnings for some parts of the country. The Swedish embassy advises travellers to be cautious and follow the instructions and advice from local authorities.
