The SE-Alert warning system is being tested

You will receive a test alert from SE-Alert if you

• are in Stockholm and the surrounding area or on Gotland

• have an up-to-date smartphone (or other smart device). No app or registration is required.

• have your mobile switched on and connected to the mobile network.

During the test, you will receive a text message accompanied by a loud audible signal and vibration, even if your mobile is in silent mode. As this is a test, you do not need to take any action. Please do let children, young people and older people around you know about the test in advance.

This is what the test message will look like

During the first SE-Alert test, the subject line of the text message may be in English. The text of the message will be in Swedish, followed by English. This will be adjusted in future in line with updates from Apple and Google.

Counties near the test area may receive the message

If you are in a county near the test area, it is a good idea to be prepared for the possibility that you may also receive the test message. This applies to Uppsala, Södermanland and Västmanland. This is because SE-Alert is transmitted via mobile phone masts, and it is the range of these masts that determines coverage, not the exact county boundaries.

SE-Alert is one of several ways of alerting the public

SE-Alert complements the existing system for Important Public Announcements (VMA). If you do not have a smartphone, you can still receive VMA alerts via radio, TV, text messages, apps and the outdoor warning system Hesa Fredrik.

National test of SE-Alert in December

SE-Alert went live on 1 July but is continuing to be developed and tested throughout the autumn. The next test of SE-Alert will take place in December. The test will then be carried out nationwide. The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency, the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority and SOS Alarm have worked together on the introduction of SE-Alert in Sweden.
